Is the Country Boy Mine still an active mine looking for Gold?
No, the country boy mine can no longer mine for it’s valuable ore still inside the mountain due to the cost prohibitive mining standards of today. The Country Boy mine did not close because it ran out of gold, but closed due to economic conditions. The rich vein structure still inside the mine has an estimated value of $25 million in today’s market, but would cost more than $25 million to extract. Today, the Country Boy Mine “mines” for tourists!

Is the mine safe?
Yes! The mine is inspected by the State of Colorado and the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. The mine is NOT a vertical shaft mine, but utilizes an adet, or a horizontal bore into the mountain. We added walking planks in the mine so that most everyone can enjoy it.

Are the toilets outside?
As part of the authentic experience of a mine site, outdoor camping toilets are available. But unlike a camping experience, these are kept clean daily. However, we do have several original outhouses on site, but these are our “Executive wash rooms.”

What should I wear?
You need to dress warmly as temperatures can change rapidly during the Summer. The mine is a constant 45 degrees year-round, so it is a bit cool in the summertime and really warm inside during the winter. During summer visits, please wear appropriate footwear and a light jacket. During winter, come dressed for the weather.

Where do we park?
Plenty of free parking is located at the Country Boy Mine. We do not provide any transportation.

Are kids allowed?
Kids particularly like the mine site and love to explore the various exhibits. Kids 3 and under are free.
